Litigants give thumbs up to Court on Wheel

The Court on Wheel initiative undertaken by the Maharashtra District Legal Services Authority and Pune Bar Association (PBA) is getting a good response.

The Court on Wheel initiative undertaken by the Maharashtra District Legal Services Authority and Pune Bar Association (PBA) is getting a good response.

The important part of the initiative is that the cases which otherwise would have continued for years are now being settled in the mobile court with litigants not even having to travel to court. The mobile Lok Adalat is part of the legal awareness campaign,and the chariot will traverse the entire district.

Wednesday morning,the chariot was in Warwand,Daund district. The litigants lined up at the local school since morning to avail the services.

Around 20 cases were settled,which included 9 criminal and 11 civil of the 144 cases put in front of the bench comprising a retired judge and two lawyers.

One such case was of Sanjay Ladkat,who moved the court against his father over a land dispute. The case was settled Friday by the bench of retired judge P S Duthade,advocate A P Khullam and advocate A L Oval. The father and mother gave up the claims on the land and it was distributed equally among the three siblings — Sanjay,his brother and his sister.

The mobile Lok Adalat was flagged off by principal district and sessions judge Anant Badar

Monday .

On the first day,the “Court on Wheel” settled 160 cases at Shivajinagar,Pune Cantonment Court Khadki Cantonment Court and Pimpri Court.
