July records below normal range rain in Pune, half of what it got last year
Pune district received 290 mm in July as against the normal of 310mm. Most districts in Maharashtra have received normal rainfall but some districts have reported deficits

July 2025 was marked by below average rainfall for Pune city with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stating it had received 130 mm rain. While the normal average for the month is 194.1 mm, last year Pune city had received 396 mm in July.
Pune district received 290 mm in July as against the normal of 310mm. Most districts in Maharashtra have received normal rainfall but some districts have reported deficits. The state’s July records stood at 327.9 mm against the normal of 324.4 mm. Majority of days in the month were dry which has raised concerns, but the last two weeks of July saw the state receive a good amount of rainfall. The country as a whole has received 474.3 mm of rainfall till July 31 – the normal range being 445.8 mm.
In Maharashtra, districts of Thane, Solapur, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Satara, Akola and Washim reported large deficits in rain for July. Districts in east Vidarbha, which include districts of Bhandara, Nagpur, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, reported excess rainfall. Parbhani is the only district in Marathwada which has reported excess rainfall in July.
August, the IMD said, will likely see normal rainfall — between 94 per cent to 106 percent of the long period average (LPA) in most of the country. The monthly average temperature for August will likely be normal or above normal in most parts of the country. Minimum temperatures are likely to be below normal in some parts of northwest India.
IMD in its forecast has said parts of Vidarbha is likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning. The present rainfall in Pune is likely to taper down from Friday with little or no rainfall expected for the next three days.
