JN Petit Technical School emerged victors in the Under-18 District Basketball Championship, convincingly defeating defending champions Deccan Gymkhana in the final played at the BNS Court ,Prabhat Road,on Thursday.
Petit avenged their loss last year, where Deccan had beaten them in the final to be crowned champions.
Both teams had entered the final with one-sided victories over Mahesh Bal Bhavan and Modern High School respectively.
JN Petit took control of the match right from the start and scored quick baskets to build up an early lead. They had a comfortable 48-20 lead at halftime. The Deccan Gymkhana defense was unable to find a response to Arun Harikumars powerful drives to the basket,as the national player put up a good show.
Harikumar ended up as the top-scorer with 25 points, followed by Nipun Jadhav who scored 13. Rahul Shah and Pranav Wagle put up a fight for the losing side, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively.
In the second half,Petit slowed the game down a notch, scoring only 22 points compared to their commanding first-half performance. Their defence, however, was airtight, allowing Deccan to add only 17 points to their total in the last two quarters as the final score read 70-37 in JN Petits favour.
Scores:
JN Petit Technical School 70 (Arun Harikumar 25,Nipun Jadhav 13) beat Deccan Gymkhana 37 (Rahul Shah 12,Pranav Wagle 11).
