Ahluwalia,the 36-year-old American Sikh jewellery designer and actor (he appeared in the Golden Globe nominated film,I Am Love),is among the most applauded men in New York City. Jewels from House of Waris,his jewellery house,are worn by celebrities like Kate Hudson,Maggie Gyllehaal,Natalie Portman and Wes Anderson. In Punjab,he is seen as the States biggest style import to the US,even though he migrated with his parents from Amritsar when he was all of five.

When jewellery found its way into my life,I saw it as a way to bring India back into my life, admits Ahluwalia whose new collection brings together all his worlds thus far Rome,Jaipur,Bangkok and New York. He is determined to preserve old craftsmanship. With gold,I create history,diamonds that see the future and rubies that long for love. Theres a story in each stone. Ill leave it for you to find them on your own, says the designer. This year,Ahluwalia launched a line of scarves at the New York Fashion Week.

As for personal style,he admits his approach is the same as it is to his work. I find the best craftsmen and learn about them and their work. Its thoughtful consumerism. I have tailors that make my clothes all over the world,including India, says he. But it will be a while before Ahluwalias jewels are retailed in India. I am still waiting for the right opportunity, he shares.
