‘People here actively seek change’: Indu Rani Dubey bids farewell as Pune Divisional Railway Manager
Rajesh Kumar Verma, a 1993-batch officer of the Indian Railway Stores Service, will be the next Pune DRM.

Referring to Pune as a “happening place” where she enjoyed working over the last two years, outgoing Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Indu Rani Dubey expressed gratitude for her positive experiences in the city before relinquishing charge of the Central Railway division.
Tuesday marked Dubey’s final day as Pune DRM as she made way for her successor, Rajesh Kumar Verma, to take over. Sharing her appreciation, Dubey highlighted how the residents here are well aware of their rights.
“People here are not reconciled to the status quo, unlike many other areas. They actively seek change and utilise various forums to voice their demands. It’s a happening place where I thoroughly enjoyed working,” she remarked.
Reflecting on her challenges in Pune, Dubey shared that the initial two to three months were particularly difficult as understanding the division’s extensive geographical stretch was a steep learning curve. “When I joined, I had to oversee several stations covering around 500 km. The responsibility increased when the division’s jurisdiction expanded to about 900 km. However, now, if someone asks me about the stations, I can effortlessly name all 102 of them along with their unique characteristics,” she said.
She further explained the distinctive aspects of the Pune Railway Division, emphasising its varied geography, including ghat sections, curve sections, and vulnerable areas during monsoon. “One needs to prepare with a deep understanding of these regions. For instance, safety concerns in flood-prone sections, like the Panchganga river section, require special attention and pre-emptive measures,” Dubey added.
Her transition to the DRM role was not without its challenges, as her previous position was that of chief commissioner of railway safety in Lucknow. “I managed a department responsible for granting safety clearances and investigating major accidents,” she explained.
A 1994-batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), Dubey holds degrees in economics and law. She assumed charge as DRM in November 2022 following her appointment in October that year. The railway authorities are yet to issue an official order on her next posting.
Rajesh Kumar Verma, a 1993-batch officer of the Indian Railway Stores Service (IRSS), will be the next DRM for Pune. He previously served as chief material manager with Northern Railway. Pune Division Public Relations Officer Ram Paul Barpagga said further details will be announced after Verma assumes charge.
