National Cyber Security Coordinator Lt General Rajesh Pant (Retd) on Monday announced that the first version of this National Cyber Security Reference Framework (NCRF) document has been finalised and will act as the Indian standard for the Cyber security, especially for the critical sectors.

The initiative is being driven by National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre under a project funded by the National Security Council Secretariat, as per a press statement.

On Monday, at an event organized at Persistent Systems Limited, Pune, Lt Gen Pant announced that the first version of the NCRF document has been finalized and it is ready for public release.
The framework will act as a guiding document for the critical sector entities to develop their governance and management systems as well as their architecture framework for both Information Technology and Operational technology systems.

“Presently there is no system to guide organisations, especially in the critical sector, as to what are the best practices for creating Cyber security systems. There have been large scale attacks recently for example on Oil India, a group in Nagpur and an attack on Tata Power. All these critical sector entities.

The Government of India has selected seven sectors as critical sectors – telecom, power and energy, banking and financial services, transportation, strategic enterprises, government enterprises and healthcare.

Lt Gen Pant further said, ” I am happy to announce that we have finalised this framework today and it has been approved by the committee.”
