The India Meteorological Department (IMD) will celebrate the World Meteorological day today by throwing its observatories and other relevant units open to public. An exhibition is being arranged on the occasion. The exhibition will include exhibits from five meteorological divisions in the city dealing with research,forecasting,instrumentation,agricultural meteorology and training.
The World Meteorological day is celebrated by 189 member countries to commemorate the foundation of the WMO in 1950. The theme of this year on occasion of its diamond jubilee celebrations is 60 years of service for your safety and well-being.
Deputy Director general AB Mazumdar said that they would have the exhibition from 10 am to 5 pm. There will be an outreach programme for teachers and posters from WMO will be put up in our institutes, he said. Lectures are also going to be aired in Marathi by the All India Radio.
Climate change projections co-sponsored by WMO have convincingly anticipated the potential adverse impacts on society,ecosystems and our natural resources.As natural hazards pose very serious threats to human settlement,WMO has devoted considerable efforts to developing operational warning systems and effective preparedness measures to reduce the associated loss of lives.
