Pune: Hotelier injured in firing at Yerawada dies in hospital

Senior police inspector Santosh Patil said following the death of Vicky Chandalia, section 302 (murder) of IPC has been invoked against the accused.They demanded money from Vicky. When Vicky refused to give money, Akash fired two bullets at him. One of the bullets hit Vicky, leaving him in a pool of blood following which, the miscreants fled the spot, police said.

A hotelier who was injured after being shot at by a history sheeter in , died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Sunday.

Police identified the deceased as Vicky Raju Chandalia (31), a resident of Jay Jawan Nagar in Yerwada.

Police said that Vicky was running a hotel that he had taken on rent, near Agrasen High School in Yerwada.

Probe revealed that a few days before there was a skirmish between him and a history sheeter identified as Akash Chandalia.
Police said Akash and his accomplices went to Vicky’s hotel around 1 am on Friday.

They demanded money from Vicky. When Vicky refused to give money, Akash fired two bullets at him. One of the bullets hit Vicky, leaving him in a pool of blood following which, the miscreants fled the spot, police said.

After receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and launched a search for the accused persons. Meanwhile, Vicky was admitted to a hospital for treatment and an FIR was lodged at the Yerawada police station against seven persons in this case, including the prime suspect Akash.

Police arrested the seven persons under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 388 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), 143 (unlawful assembly), 144 (armed with deadly weapon), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 34 (common intention) of the IPC and sections of the Arms Act.

Senior police inspector Santosh Patil said following the death of Vicky Chandalia, section 302 (murder) of IPC has been invoked against the accused.

Police said Vicky is survived by his parents, a brother and sister. Police force was deployed at the time of his funeral on Sunday as a precaution.
