The Pune police stepped up security in Hinjewadi from Wednesday evening following intelligence inputs. Extensive patrolling is being carried out in the region,especially around the IT Park. A huge police force has been deployed at strategic spots. Vehicles passing through the four entry points to Hinjewadi are being thoroughly checked.
Joint Commissioner of Police Rajendra Sonawane said,Security has been increased in Hinjewadi after receiving general inputs. He,however,said there was no specific terror threat. We keep getting such inputs. There is nothing to worry about. The increased police security will also help in keeping a tab on routine criminals,especially during night, he said.
Sukhad Kulkanri,a software developer with a company in Hinjewadi,said he has observed the enhanced security for the past week. There has been increase in police personnel,check points and police patrolling, he said.
Trupti Biniwale,a HR professional working in Hinjewadi also said that security has been increased in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech park area. There are check points at every entry point of the Infotech Park, she said.
Meanwhile,sources said due to intelligence inputs,the police have also instructed the private security personnel at the IT Park and other places in Hinjewadi,about the security measures to be followed. Nakabandi operation was also carried out.
Sources said Hinjewadi has been a sensitive spot due to the IT Park. There have been similar intelligence alerts about Hinjewadi before too due to which the city police has been conducting terrorism awareness programmes in several IT companies in Hinjewadi over the past year.
A month ago a task force was jointly formed by the city police and Hinjewadi Industries Association for better security in the IT park area.
The task force comprises two patrol vans,each with two police officers,a dog squad and four armed security personnel. The vans patrol all the three phases of Hinjewadi IT area for 24 hours and also help the police in nakabandi.
