Two highway robbers nabbed

In his complaint, Imamsheikh said that he was waylaid near Hingangaon when he had stopped there a few days back.

Pune Rural Police cracked down on a team of highway robbers who are allegedly responsible for a series of robberies in Indapur, Daund, Malshirash and other areas in and around Pune district. The arrests followed a complaint lodged by Kamruddin Imamsheikh who was allegedly robbed by the gang near Hingangaon on the Pune-Pandharpur highway.

In his complaint, Imamsheikh said that he was waylaid near Hingangaon when he had stopped there a few days back. Two unidentified motorcyclists had allegedly attacked him with sharp instruments and decamped with booty worth Rs 1.2 lakh which included two mobile phones and a driving licence. Following the FIR, special teams were constituted to crack the case.

The team led by police inspector Ram Jadhav acting on information received from informers identified the accused as Somnath Vishnu Raut (25), a resident of Shetfhal Haveli village in Indapur tehshil of Pune district. Raut, during police interrogation, reportedly spilled the beans against his accomplices namely Shrikant Nana Dorkar (20), a resident of Malshikhare basti in Indapur.

Sustained investigations by the police revealed that Raut and his gang has been responsible for similar crimes in other parts of the district too. Further investigations are underway to nab other members of the gang.
