Herald of health,considered as India’s oldest existing health magazine,completed 100 years of imparting health tips to citizens. To mark the occasion,Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal released a special centenary issue of the magazine at his office on Monday.
The magazine is published by Oriental Watchman Publishing House (OWPH),Pune,which is 108-yr-old and is known for publishing various books and magazines in the field of health,education and spirituality,and is a franchisee of the Seventh-day Adventist Church said a press note.
Herald of Health has been serving its readers since January 1910 when it was started by Adventist Missionaries in Lucknow. The magazine had to be temporarily suspended during the World War I. In 1924,OWPH was shifted to Pune with the Herald of Health getting a new address.
Until 1970,the editors of the magazine were missionaries from abroad,and in the same year,Dr John M Fowler became its first Indian editor.
Edwin Mathews,general manager of OWPH,T I Varghese,editor-in-chief,Joy Kuttappan,editor of Herald of Health,Ravi Sighamoney,treasurer of OWPH,Lamm B Fanwar,book editor,and foremen of various units of OWPH were present on the release function.
