This group exhibition of paintings and sculptures is a narrative on the essence of being a woman At the Tilting Art Gallery (TAG),Ishanya Mall,19 artists have come together to artistically present their ideas of womanhood. The exhibition, titled 'Connecting Women,Inspiring Future',will be showcased till March 21. The art gallery's compact walls are adorned with bright and bold images. These pictures relay stories that are unique, personal to each artist. The sculptures here provide a three-dimensional commentary on their ideas on life. Ritika Zharotia,Gauri Seth,Sumana Nath,Ketaki Pimpalkhare and Girija Mirchandani among others, are the artists who have contributed their works for the exhibition. For artist Bharati Pitre, the exhibition is an opportunity to present a narrative on relationships. She uses papier mache as a medium that is both organic and traditional. But the forms are contemporary and bold, she says. My sculptures present the basic essence of everyday life. It's a take on relationships, presented in a humorous way. The sculptures on display are called 'Circus',where a man and a woman are presenting acrobatics. It shows the faith she has in the relationship. Then I have another sculpture talking about God and man. Bharati,a trained commercial artist with a specialisation in illustration from Sophia Polytechnic,Mumbai, has also taught the subject at her alma mater for a few years. A decade ago,she established Studio of Contemporary Art. Artist Gauri Gandhi's work too is inspired from the same medium, and has become her colourful autobiography. The idea was to create a reflection of myself. I have tried to add a lot of colour. The sculptures talk about self-reflection. Artist Falguni Gokhale's canvas reflects her ideas on women's empowerment. I try to recreate the secret abundance of the wild and free nature of a womans psyche, and the blossoming energy that comes to us in cycles and spurts. My paintings are very 'biological' and I draw inspiration from cells and biology. Curated by Neena Sahani, the show did not have a specific theme at the start, but was thought up as a group effort at showcasing every participating artist's personal idea of art.
