Morpheus ART,an Indo-German joint venture company,will be conducting fertility camps at its IVF clinics in the city on November 25. The fertility camps are in conjunction with its eminent German faculty. Dr. Arvind Chandra and Dr. Meenu Agarwal,the core fertility specialists at the Morpheus-Bliss Fertility Center,Dhole Patil road,will conduct the camp in Pune.

Dental conference
The Armed Forces Medical College,Pune,concluded the 9th National Dental Update on November 20 and 21. The theme for this year was ‘Emerging Challenges in Dental Science’. According to Brigadier N K Sahoo,professor & head,Dept. of Dental Surgery,AFMC,several nationally acclaimed experts and eminent guest speakers were invited to address vital issues concerning the challenges and recent advances in dentistry. As part of this update,an inter-collegiate poster and quiz competition was conducted. Around 350 civilian and service delegates attended the event. On this occasion a book entitled ‘Tuesday Dental Clinics at AFMC’ and a Manual for Dental Technicians,compiled by the faculty of the Dept. of Dental Surgery,were released.

IMA vice president
Dr Devendra. K. Shirole from Pune was elected to the post of national vice-president of the Indian Medical Association for the period 2010 – 2012 at the elections held recently. Dr. Vinay Agarwal from Delhi and Dr. Ramchandra Appa from Bangalore were elected as national president for the year 2010 -2011 and 2011- 2012 respectively. IMA has over one lakh ninety two thousand members practicing modern medicine in India and has more than 1700 local IMA branches. Shirole had earlier worked as the president of the Pune local branch and the Maharastra state branch of the Indian Medical Association. He is a recipient of the Best Local Branch President and Best State Branch President of the Indian Medical Association as well as Dr. R. K. Moorthy Award for outstanding work in the field of psychiatry.

Cipla palliative care
The 13th Founder’s Day function of Cipla Palliative Care and Training Centre,run by Cipla Foundation in Pune,was held recently. Speaking at the event,trustee of Cipla Foundation and chairman and managing director of Cipla Ltd.,Dr Y K Hamied,called for creating greater awareness about the use of morphine in chronic pain management. Echoing his sentiments,actor Madhav Abhyankar expressed the hope that even the upper middle class patients would come forward to avail of the facilities provided by the Centre. S V Iyer,managing trustee of Cipla Foundation pointed out how the patient was the focal point of the holistic care provided at the Centre. Several past and present patients have enjoyed evenings of music and laughter. The father-son duo of Pramod and Hrishikesh Ranade,along with Swapnaja Lele,have presented a musical programme,while Makarand Tillu’s comedy programme had the audience in splits. Established in 1997,the 50-bed Centre has so far cared for more than 6,800 cancer patients and their families. All services provided to the patient are free of cost,including medicines.
