Goons go on rampage,damage 25 vehicles after quarrel with hotelier

After picking a quarrel with a hotelier over payment of liquor bill,a gang went on a rampage in the area damaging around 25 private vehicles parked on the road in Datta Nagar,Ambegaon area in the wee hours of Saturday.

They pelted stones at a police team that reached t he spot and gave them chase forcing police fire a few rounds in self defence. There was panic in the area following the incident. Senior officers including district superintendent of police Manojkumar Lohiya,additional superintendent Ravindrasinh Pardeshi visited Ambegaon to ensure law and order is maintained.

Prakash Hegde of Hotel Chandrabhaga in Datta Nagar,Ambegaon lodged a complaint with Haveli Police under the jurisdiction of the Pune rural police,against Amit Kanta Chorge and his aides Karan alias Bobby Rohidas Patole,Harshad Dhanawade,Vishal Dhamale and others. Police arrested one of them on Saturday afternoon,while a search is on for the others.

Police said Chorge,who is also a resident of Ambegaon area,had come to Hotel Chandrabhaga with his aides for a liquor party. Around 1 am,he started a quarrel with hotelier Hegde over payment of bill. The goons thrashed Hegde and some of hotel staff. They damaged the hotel by pelting stones. Hegde then called the police.

Soon,a team of Haveli police led by sub inspector Sunil Kshirsagar rushed to the spot. Meanwhile,the goons fled the hotel and started damaging private vehicles and pelting stones on vehicles parked in front of the Chandrabha residency building in Ambegaon. As many as 23 four-wheelers and two auto-rickshaws were damaged.

Police said Chorge was earlier arrested in connection with a murder case and is out on bail.

Such incidents have taken place before in the Pune city area. The trend had started particularly after the murder of Baiju Navghane,president of Ganraj group in Balaji Nagar,Dhankawdi allegedly by a members of rival Maratha Yoddha group in Dhankwadi on October 21,2011. After attacking Navghane,the assailants armed with sharp weapons and wooden sticks ran on crowded streets in Balaji Nagar,Dhankawdi and damaged about 100 private vehicles on the public road.

Later,several incidents of gangs damaging cars and two-wheelers were reported in the last one year in Sutarwadi,Hadapsar,Nigdi,Pimpri,Warje and other parts of the city.
