He is famous as the lead guitarist of the country’s most popular rock band,Indian Ocean. After numerous performances with the co-members of the band,Sushmit Sen is ready to scale new heights, with a solo ventureDepths of the Oceanhis latest album.
The idea of coming out with a solo album was on my mind for quite a long time. However, last year, despite a hectic schedule I finally took out time to work on this project. There are certain compositions that need to be expressed by a musician, they cannot be pent up for a long time otherwise it becomes a self destructive process. There were many such compositions that I have compiled for this album, says Sen. After his solo performances in Mumbai and Pune,Sen is heading to Hyderabad,Bangalore and Delhi.
Apart from the song ‘City Lights,’ a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore, which was composed by Sen in 2010,the album features compositions conceived by him over eight years back, before the rock band Indian Ocean was formed. He does not believe in segregation of genres but has nonetheless created a whole new genre for himself- an uncanny Indian sound with strong melody and rhythm. “In the entire album you would find hardly a line of lyrics. I have always found it easier to express my thoughts,my ideas,my emotions through music rather than lyrics or words, describes Sen.
(Sen is performing at Hard Rock Cafe,Pune on August 10,8 pm onwards)
