Pune Shikshan Mandal,PMC in collaboration with student volunteers from Dr D Y Patil Institute of Management and Research,Pimpri,and Lifebuoy,embarked upon an oath taking drive in 240 municipal schools recently for Global Handwash Day.

In a unique partnership aimed at increasing hand hygiene awareness,Pune Shikshan Mandal,PMC in collaboration with student volunteers from Dr D Y Patil Institute of Management and Research,Pimpri,and Lifebuoy,embarked upon an oath taking drive in 240 municipal schools recently for Global Handwash Day (October 15). Sangeeta Tiwari,chairperson of the school board,formally started this initiative by taking an oath along with other officials. Posters and innovative story flip charts,which communicated the importance of washing hands with soap in a fun and engaging manner,were distributed among children. This initiative is being carried out in city schools this week.

Picture Perfect

Photography has been M B Nambiar’s hobby for years now. He has a collection of almost 10,000 pictures. In the last two years,he travelled around the world and shot beautiful landscape pictures which are now on display at the PMC New Art Gallery,Deccan. Some of the picturesque places captured by his lens include Kenya,Europe,Sri Lanka and different parts of India like Jaisalmer,Leh-Ladakh and Kerala. The proceeds from this exhibition,which was inaugurated on October 14,will go towards the benefit of Cochlea-Pune,an organisation that works for the betterment of hearing and speech impared people. When Nambiar met the children of the organisation,he had an instant urge to reach out to them and help in any way he could. That is how the idea for this photography exhibition took shape. The exhibition is on till October 18,between 10 and 8 pm.
