Ride to Ganesh festival turns fatal for 3 youths as bus knocks down their bike on Pune-Nashik highway

The police arrested and booked the bus driver who fled the scene after the accident on Saturday morning.

PuneFIR was registered at the Manchar police station based on a complaint filed by Pratik's father Tukaram Gare.

Three youths triple riding on a bike to Pune city for Ganesh festival celebrations were killed in a hit-and-run accident after a private passenger bus knocked them down on the Pune-Nashik highway in the early hours of Saturday, said the police.

The accident occurred around 1.30 am on the Pune-Nashik highway at the Shewalwadi village, 65 km from Pune city, in the Ambegaon taluka of the Pune district. The deceased were identified as Pratik Tukaram Gare, 21; Tejas Maruti Ghode, 21; and Karan Dnyaneshwar Dhengale, 19, all residents of Ambegaon taluka.

The police detained Rajeshkumar Bholuram Gujar, who was driving the private bus from Nashik to Pune. He fled from the accident spot but was later caught by local residents.

“Initial information suggests the three friends were going to Pune city for the Ganesh festival celebrations. At Shewalwadi, their bike was hit by the bus from behind. The three fell and sustained fatal injuries. After the accident, the driver fled with the bus. Some local residents chased the bus and stopped it a few kilometres from the accident spot. We subsequently detained him. We have booked him for rash driving, causing death due to negligence and provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.” said an officer from Manchar police station.

A first information report (FIR) was registered at the Manchar police station based on a complaint filed by Pratik’s father Tukaram Gare.
