FYJC admissions in Maharashtra cross 50% mark in Round 3 of Centralised Admission Process

A total of 44,202 students have been admitted to 325 colleges in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area through the CAP.

Surpassing trends set in previous years, admissions to First Year Junior College (FYJC) in Maharashtra crossed the 50 per cent mark in Round 3 itself of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) which concluded on July 14.

“Every year, admissions go up to around 47 per cent in the third round. This year it has been more than 50 per cent,” said Sampat Suryawanshi, Director of Education (Maharashtra Secondary and Higher Secondary department).

Suryawanshi added, “It depends on the preferences of the candidates. Some students want only a specific college for various possible reasons like distance from residence. But this time, the procedure went well.”

A total of 44,202 students have been admitted to 325 colleges in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area through the CAP. The total number of students is 88,046.

Round 3 of the CAP began on July 6 with 57,857 vacant seats. According to official data, 5,289 students took admission in Round 3, as of 6 pm on the concluding day.

“We will now have a special round which will begin on Monday and go on for ten days,” said the official.

According to data published on the official website of the School Education and Sports department, science has been the most popular stream of choice among students. With 21,888 confirmed admissions, over 46 per cent of the 47,450 available seats have been filled.

Over 35 per cent of the seats for the Commerce stream were filled with 16,770 admissions. A little over 25 per cent of the seats in the Arts stream were filled with 4,535 admissions against the possible intake of 17,500 students.

The number of students that have enrolled in English medium (53,629) far exceeds those who have enrolled in Marathi medium (17,049), Hindi (85) and Urdu (61).
