From Korea with Love

The first ever Korean Film Festival is all set to begin from today at the National Film Archives of India,all thanks to the effort of the Indo-Korean Centre.

The first ever Korean Film Festival is all set to begin from today at the National Film Archives of India(NFAI),all thanks to the effort of the Indo-Korean Centre. Chandrashekhar Joshi FRO,at Film and Television Institute of India (FTII),says,“The festival will showcase Korea’s five most popular films from the last decade that have gone on to either become runaway success stories or touched a chord with audiences worldwide.”

Joshi who was recently in Korea for three months as a part of the 2nd Asian Film Professionals Training Programme,got a chance to study the Korean film industry and their style of film making very closely. Speaking about it,he says,“The Koreans are known to make films that depict tales of people,which have strong underlying political social and emotional undercurrents. Also as they do not have a censorship board in Korea.”

To be held from today the festival will go on till July 24,and will showcase films like Secret Sunshine,King and the Clown,Welcome to Dongmakgol,Chihwaseon,and My Sassy Girl. Of the movies to be screened Secret Sunshine,was one of the top grosser for the year 2007 in Korea and was also widely acclaimed at the Cannes Film Festival.

The movies will be screened in the evenings six pm onwards.
