Fresh step to remove hoarding scars from city

To regulate the putting up of hoardings and banners throughout the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon table a policy in the standing committee to ensure hoardings and banners don’t deface the city. The policy envisages allowing them only at specific locations.

“The policy will keep a check on illegal hoardings as well as ensure the city is not defaced due to them. The hoardings on buildings will be allotted through tenders instead of private contractors, and the civic body will be able to increase its revenue at least by 30 per cent. The existing annual revenue through hoardings is Rs three crore,” said Congress leader Ulhas Bagul. In its policy, the civic administration has divided the PMC jurisdiction into 116 units for open advertisement. It proposes no- hoarding zones in various pockets, and restrictions on hoardings and banners within 200 metres of schools, colleges, hospitals and police stations. The civic body plans to clean up all junctions by removing hoardings and allowing open advertisement at least 25 metres away from junctions.
