Four booked for culpable homicide after youth’s death in assault at petrol pump

PUNE POLICE have booked four staffers at a petrol pump on the charges of culpable homicide days after a 20-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after he was allegedly beaten up by them following a dispute over properly queuing at the filling station on October 13.

The incident took place around 3.10 am on October 13 at a filling station of an international oil company in Warje Malwadi area of Pune. Police have identified the deceased as Yash Pawar (20) who hailed from Poladpur town in Raigad district of Maharashtra. First Information Report in the case was registered on Saturday afternoon based on the complaint of his father Rajendra Pawar (58).

According to the FIR, Yash had gone to the petrol pump for a refill in his bike with his three friends. At the time he had a fight with four staffers at the filling station about properly standing in the queue. Yash and his friends were thrashed by the four staffers.
During this fight Yash was punched on the head and face. “After getting hit on the head and face, Pawar stayed on the premises for a while. He however collapsed later and fell unconscious. He was taken to a hospital but succumbed to injuries during treatment.” said an officer from Warje Malwadi police station.

“Based on the complaint filed by his father and examination of the CCTV footage at the petrol pump, the four staffers who beat up Pawar have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. We have invoked charges of voluntarily causing hurt and voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous means. Further probe is on,” the officer added.

Police have identified the four accused persons as Shivraj Ambaraya Gutti (23) a native of Gulbarga in Karnataka, Jeevan Mahadev Kave (25) a native of Killari in Latur district, Sanket Dhanaji Lankeshwar (25) a native of Tulhapur in Solapur and Ritesh Rajendra Gaikwad (22), a native of Karad in Satara and all presently living in Warje.
