Former MP’s son commits suicide at Manchar in Pune

Police said an investigation was on to confirm why Vikas Bankhele committed suicide.

The son of a former Lok Sabha MP was found dead at his residence in Manchar in Ambegaon taluka of Pune district on Thursday.

Police suspect the deceased, Vikas Kisanrao Bankhele (42), committed suicide by hanging himself with a wire. However, the cause behind the incident was not known and so as per procedure a case of accidental death was lodged at the Manchar police station of the Pune rural police.

Police said an investigation was on to confirm why Vikas Bankhele committed suicide.

Vikas’s father Kisanrao Bankhele was a senior politician who had won the Lok Sabha elections from Khed in Pune district in 1988. Kisanrao passed away in 2014.

Vikas was residing with his family at Manchar. He held meetings with his friends during the day and returned home. But later he did not come out of his room.

When family members called him for dinner, he did not respond. So, when they checked his room, he was found hanging. Soon, the police were informed. Police inspector Shrikant Kankal of Manchar police station said no suicide note or message was left by the deceased before his death. Police Havaldar Sumit More is investigating the incident.

Vikas is survived by his mother, wife, son and brother. His funeral was performed on Friday.
