A Ford team met Industries Minister Narayan Rane in Mumbai on Tuesday to seek 500 acres for starting a production unit of the US automobile giant at Chakan with an investment of Rs 5,000 crore.
They asked for land and amenities like road. They met me for the first time today,we have asked them to submit a formal proposal after which talks can be held further, said Rane.
He said the team visited the location in Chakan and also selected a site. We have the land they require. It has to be formally done. There is already an automobile cluster at Chakan, said Rane.
Ford has been in India since 1995 and employs about 5,000 people. It manufactures and distributes automobiles and engines made at its plant in Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai.
Fords operations in the country include Global Business Services with a workforce of more than 4,700,providing business services in areas of IT,accounting and finance,financial services and automotive operations support,global analytics and engineering services. These operations serve Fords business units and skill teams globally out of centres in Chennai and Coimbatore.
