The Pune FC junior team played out a thriller against Roopali FC in a match for the Guru teg Bahadur football tournament on Wednesday,prevailing in a sudden death after 90 minutes of tense,gruelling football. Both teams were at each others throats all through the match,and neither could make any headway as fulltime ended 0-0. The match then went into tiebreaker.
Stephen Charles and Riyan Yadgiri converted their spot-kicks for PFC,while Roopali responded through Nikhil Dhankude and Amol Torse for the shootout score to stand at 2-2.
Roopali looked to be in the drivers’ seat when Rohan Kadam of PFC missed his penalty while Sunish Anand converted his. Parth Kalyani then scored to keep PFC in the hunt,but Rohan Kingley restored Roopalis lead. However,there was another twist to the tail as Santosh Joshi of Roopali missed his final penalty,and Ashwin Pathak converted to bring PFC level at 4-4.
In the sudden death,Samuel Torne converted his penalty calmly to give PFC a 5-4 lead. PFC keeper Shahbaz Khan finally won the tense encounter for his team,pulling off a brilliant save off Sunil Bhakre.
In the other match,Sangam FC thrashed Khadki Blues thanks to two goals from right-winger Sushil Chaudhry. Chaudhry scored in the 41st and 47th minute,in between a goal apiece from Ruban Swamy (2nd minute) and Anup Sawant (54 th minute) to give his team a victory.
Indrayani FC beat Kirkeeans 4-2 in the final encounter of the day. Indrayani scored three quick goals in the 33rd ,35th and 37th minute to leave Kirkeeans reeling. Valerian D Souza,Abhijit Mudliar and Sujit Nair netted the respective goals. Pivesh Jain pulled one back for Kirkeeans in the 42nd ,only to see D Souza score again at the other end. The final consolation goal came from Vikas Pillay,but by then it was too late and Indrayani had complete control of the match that they eventually won.
