Fire at Pimpri shop destroys spices

A Large number of sacks containing spices kept in a Pimpri shop were destroyed after they caught fire around 8.30 am on Monday.

A Large number of sacks containing spices kept in a Pimpri shop were destroyed after they caught fire around 8.30 am on Monday.

According to fire brigade of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC),a shop which houses a wholesale spices agency owned by one Anand Agarwal near Pimpri station caught fire around 8.30 in the morning. Though firemen could not ascertain the exact reason of the fire,they said it could be because of the crackers that were being bursted by the children on the street.

Officer at the fire brigade control room said,“There were a large number of gunny bags containing chillies and spices. The fire was brought under control within 15 to 20 minutes. Though no one was injured,the pungent fumes caused irritation to residents in the radius of about 50m. The effect of fumes remained in the air for more than an hour.”
