Pune: FIR against ‘drunk’ man for giving false information to police control room

Pune city police booked a man for allegedly making a phone call to the police control room under the influence of alcohol and gaving false information.

Police identified the accused as Rakesh Mukesh Chavan (22), resident of 251, Mangalwar Peth.

Police said Chavan had called the 100 number of the police control room during the Dahi Handi festival on August 27 saying a group of about 30 to 40 persons armed with swords were in Mangalwar Peth area, causing a threat to his life.

The control room then passed on the information to Faraskhana police station. A police team reached Mangalwar Peth, but found nothing.

Police then tried to call the person (Chavan) who had given the false information, but he had switched off his mobile phone.

Police launched a probe and confirmed that the call was made by Chavan. Police Havaldar Vivek Patil lodged the first information report (FIR) against Chavan on Thursday for allegedly giving false information to the control room. He was booked under section 213 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a press release issued on Friday stated.

Senior police inspector Prashant Bhasme said as the offence is bailable, Chavan was not arrested, but a notice has been issued to him as per the law for further investigation.
