Fewer leave city; no extra coach in train

A large number of NE residents,mostly belonging to the working class,had started leaving the city since Thursday,when more than 2,000 people took the train. On Friday and Saturday,the number of NE residents leaving the city was 1,500 and 800 respectively. Pune station manager Suneel Kamtan said,“The number of tickets to Howrah sold on Sunday to the NE residents was less as compared to last three days. It was around 100 till about half-an-hour before the train departed. The number of people leaving would be 300 at the most.”

“We have decided not to add an extra coach,which was being done since Thursday. On Saturday,the extra coach was almost empty as the left Pune,” he added. Railway police authorities however said the number of personnel deployed on the railway station on Sunday remained the same.

Tamag Bodo,30,of Baksa in Assam,who was leaving the city with his wife,said,“I worked at a glass flask manufacturing unit in Bhosari. I have been planning to leave Pune for the last three days. My friends who have already left had told me that it was not safe to stay in the city.”
