Fergusson college has reportedly received more than 200 queries related to “mistakes” in admission procedure for graduation courses.
The problems cropped up after the first general merit list was announced for BA courses. “My niece has secured 87.4 per cent in Class XI.

We belong to the NT (B) category and she had applied for admission in Bachelor of Arts in Fergusson College. When the merit list was declared, she did not get through. However, a student who has scored 84 per cent has her name on the list. This is illogical, especially since we had completed the procedure on time,” said Sunil Wakalkar, who has come to Pune from Nagpur.

Wakalkar then approached the admission committee which also looks after grievance redressal. “The committee members realised the mistake, said it would be resolved soon and asked us to come the next day, on Friday. But nothing happened on that day and the next day too. Now, we are planning to meet the principal on Monday,” said Wakalkar. “The grievance redressal cell will take care of the problems and if anybody is unsatisfied, they can complain to me,” said principal Ravindrasinh Pardeshi.

Many other students in other categories too have found their names missing from the merit list, despite having better marks than the students on the list. According to officials, over 200 applications from parents over different issues have been received. The college has taken outside help for managing the online information system. However, it has denied any problem in the software.

“June 8 was the last date to fill the application form and the challans. On June 9, we put up the first list. From June 10, students were asked to submit queries. There is no problem with the system. Outside people are helping us but that does not mean the system is flawed. If students cannot find their names, despite their marks being inside the cut-off, it can be because of non-payment of tuition fee on time or late submission of forms. We have an admission committee and grievance redressal committee, a total of 40 computers in the library and 45 in the office just to look into the matter. Secondly, parents can come and speak with me directly, if they have a problem and it is not solved by the admission committee,” said Pardeshi.
