Fake doc who duped patients arrested

The Hinjewadi police have arrested a conman who was duping patients at reputed hospitals including the Aditya Birla Hospital in Chinchwad.

Police identified the suspect as Amit Jagannath Kamble (22),a resident of Nimbalkar Wada,Navi Peth. Last week,he allegedly duped a patient at the Aditya Birla Hospital of Rs 1.3 lakh.

He has been arrested in the case registered by Rahul Bhujangarao Khenat (24),a resident of Omkar colony,Rahatani,who had taken his grandmother to the hospital to address problems in her kidney. Claiming to be Dr Deshpande,Kamble spoke to Khenat on hospital’s landline telephone number. He told Khenat that he would give proper medicine for curing his grandmother’s kidney problem.

He initially asked Khenat to deposit Rs 20,000 in a bank account in the name of Vilas Bhaskar Admane. He then asked Khenat to deposit Rs 1 lakh more in the bank account,but did not provide any treatment. When Khenat realised that the imposter doctor has cheated him,he lodged a police complaint.

A police team led by inspector P D Patil arrested Kamble in the case. Investigation revealed that Kamble had earned Rs 60,000 by duping patients at a hospital in 2010. He then continued to cheat persons in similar manner.

Deputy commissioner of police (Zone III) Shahji Umap said at a press conference Tuesday that Kamble was earlier arrested in cases registered at Bund Garden,Samarat,Koregaon Park and Hadapsar police stations. He was also awarded three years’ imprisonment in a case. But he was released on bail and committed the crime again.

Police said that suspect Kamble used to con people by saying that he had close relations with big politicians. He told police that posing as a ward president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) once he also visited home minister R R Patil’s residence in Sangli for lunch.

Besides,he used get contact numbers of the hospitals from internet sites. Then he used to call on the reception counters of the hospitals. Calling himself doctor,he used to inquire about patients,get details of their illness and contact numbers. He then contacted the patients and duped them. He used to visit the hospitals in private cars.
