The catchment areas of the city recorded about 25 mm rainfall on Friday taking the storage of the dams upto 2.76 TMC. On Thursday,the dam levels were at 1.64 TMC after 80 mm rainfall.
Executive engineer,Khadakwasla division,SN Bolbhat said the rainfall in the catchment areas for two consecutive days Thursday and Fridayimproved the dam levels to an extent.
However,the requirement is atleast 15 TMC water for the Pune city to be comfortable. Yesterday the average was 80 mm and if we continue getting good rainfall the dam levels should improve,he said. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast good rainfall for the city in the next 48 hours.
There will be good rainfall in the next two days and with a low pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal in a day,there will be good monsoon activity for the country, said director,weather central,Medha Khole.
Even as the rainfall in the entire country has been deficient by 14 percent,the IMD has forecast increased rainfall activity in the last week of July. With an outlook to be issued by the end of the month for August and September,director,National Climate Centre,which issues the long range forecast,said the rainfall activity will improve. There will be good rainfall activity in the coming two months after this lull , said Dr S Pai,director,NCC.
The IMD said that rainfall has been excess in six divisions,normal in 16 and deficient in 14 subdivisions. Parts of Maharashtra,Madhya Pradesh,AP,TN and parts of West Benga have received good rainfall.
