Shame Tingre was involved in helping hit-and-run case accused: Sharad Pawar

Pawar also said that crimes had increased in the city and the state under the BJP and Mahayuti's rule. "The state government should ensure security to girls and women in addition to helping them financially," he said.

Raking up a high profile hit-and-run case in Vadgaonsheri, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday took a dig at sitting legislator Sunil Tingre of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP stating it was a shame that legislator was involved in protecting the accused in the incidents rather than helping the victims.

Pawar said the police admitted that prima facie there were direct and indirect links of Tingre in putting pressure on the police to protect accused persons from rich families. “It’s a shame that a legislator, instead of standing by the common people, goes to help those who killed innocent citizens,” he said in a rally organised by former legislator Bapu Pathare, who was recently inducted into the party. During the rally, several former corporators and political activists were inducted into the NCP(SP)’s fold in Kharadi in Vadgaonsheri assembly constituency, posing a big challenge to the Ajit-led NCP for the forthcoming assembly election.

Pawar said that those misusing power need to be taught a lesson in the assembly elections. “They stole the party and symbol which the entire country knows was founded by me. Now, they are seeking votes,” he said.
The Vadgaonsheri assembly is currently represented by Sunil Tingre. Pathare is likely to be pitted against Tingre in the forthcoming assembly elections.

Pathare recently joined the NCP (SP) after quitting the BJP. He had been elected as legislator from Vadgaonsheri in 2009 on an NCP ticket but had joined BJP in 2014.

The NCP (SP) chief also took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making a statement of uprooting the Gandhi family from politics. “It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister is making such a statement when a family contributed so much to the country. Jawaharlal Nehru was jailed for 12 years during the freedom struggle, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, who contributed to wards the country in a big way, were assassinated,” he added.

Pawar also said that crimes had increased in the city and the state under the BJP and Mahayuti’s rule. “The state government should ensure security to girls and women in addition to helping them financially,” he said.

Former corporators Mahesh Pathare, Mahendra Pathare and Bhaiyasaheb Jadhav have decided to join NCP (SP). Other former corporators who joined the party in the presence of Sharad Pawar are Sanjila Pathare, Suman Pathare, Kishore Vitkar, Sunanda Deokar, Sulbha Kshirsagar, Jalinder Kamble, Nanda Kamble and Tushar Bhimrao Kharat. Local office bearers of the BJP Vijay Daphal and Papu Garud, Rajendra Khandwe of NCP, Rahul Pratap of MNS and Azar Khan of RPI(A) also joined NCP (SP).
