22-year-old female Pune engg student kidnapped, murdered by three including her classmate; Rs 9 lakh demanded in ransom

Police have identified the deceased as Bhagyashree Suryakant Side (22), native of Harangul village in Latur district of Maharashtra. She was a student of B.E. Computers at the G H Raisoni College in Wagholi.

Bhagyashree went to Phoenix Mall in Viman Nagar around 9 pm on March 30, but did not return and was also not not reachable on her cell phone when her parents tried her. Her parents came to Pune and lodged a missing report at the Vimantal police station. Meanwhile, her mother received calls on her cell phone demanding extortion of Rs 9 lakh for her daughter’s release.

An FIR of kidnapping and extortion was then lodged at the Vimantal police station. A police team headed by senior inspector Anand Khobre launched a search operation into the case.

Following a probe into a financial transaction made into the victim girl’s bank account, the police arrested three suspects identified as Shivam Fulwale, Sagar Jadhav and Suresh Indure, all in their twenties.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed the arrest of three persons and that they had murdered the girl on March 30 itself before demanding extortion money from her parents.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar Magar said, “The prime suspect Shivam is from the same engineering college where the victim studied and two others are his friends.”
Prima-facie probe by the police has revealed that the accused persons were facing financial problems and hence they allegedly kidnapped the victim and tried to extort money from her family.

Police suspect that Shivam and his aides kidnapped her in a car from the Phoenix Mall area on March 30. They allegedly then strangled her to death in the car.

Police said the assailants then demanded extortion money from her parents using her cell phone. They asked the parents to transfer the money in the girl’s bank account.

Meanwhile, they buried the body at a secluded spot in Supa Village in Ahmednagar district. A police team was dispatched to Supa for further investigation on Sunday.
