Noted Marathi actor,late Nilu Phules legendary dialogue delivery and selected interviews are now available in the form of a documentary. The eight-minute film will depict the contrast between Nilu bhau – the person and his legendary character Sakharam Binder .
Phule’s character was in exact contrast with his role in Sakharam Binder. “In order to depict this contrast,we have selected dialogues from the play as against his interviews that portray his ideology. Our effort is to bring out his personality as a social worker and political thinker,” said Nishit Dadhich,who has conceptualised the documentary,adding that it will be soon uploaded in the YouTube. Vaibhav Abnave and Mihir Apte have helped Dadhich in selecting dialogues and interviews and making the film.
“Earlier,I was planning to use dialogues from other films like Saamna or Pinjra,but Sakharam Binder was the most appropriate to bring out the contrast,” Dadhich said,who has been closely associated with Nilu Phule simce 2001.
The documentary is all set to open the stage for the first ‘Nilu Phule Sanman’. This year,the award will be given to actor Kishore Kadam,social worker Sanjeev Sane and folk-artist Yamunabai Waikar. Nilu Phule’s daughter Gargi Phule-Thatte said,” My father was actively involved in the three fields -theatre and cinema,social work and folk art. That is the reason behind giving the awards to personalities from these fields.”
“Bhau was of the view that real gems are always found in the grassroots,they never gleam in the sunlight. He was always eager to respect and applaud the efforts of these unknown activists. This event is a way of acknowledging such gems of the society,” she added.
Awardee Kishore Kadam ‘s role in ‘Natrang’ and ‘Jogwa’ has earned him great applause. He is also a prolific writer,dramatist and a poet who publishes his poems under the pen name ‘Soumitra’. Sanjeev Sane is aassociated with the Rashtriya Seva Dal and currently works with a platform of likeminded political groups and people agitating at local level.
He has been involved in agitation against ENRON in 1999,anti-SEZ agitations and so on. Ninety-two-year-old Yamunabai Waikar is known for her performance of ‘Baithakichi Lavani’. The award consists of a citation,trophy and Rs 10,000 in cash. The award ceremony will be held on April 4 in Mumbai. The documentary will be uploaded on YouTube after the award ceremony,said Omkar Thatte,son-in-law of Nilu Phule.
