Chandra- In Quest of Perspectives,a documentary,graphically designed and edited by professor Mandar Deshpande,head of department of the audio visuals at ISB&M School of Communication,was aired on DD National and Loksabha TV recently. The documentary is based on Nobel Prize winner and scientist Professor S Chandrasekar,who was an Indian Astrophysicist. He won the 1983 Nobel Prize for Physics for key discoveries that led to the currently accepted theory on the later evolutionary stages of massive stars. Chandrasekhar is the nephew of Sir C V Raman,who had earlier won the Nobel Prize for Physics.

Conference on embedded systems

Around 100 engineering students from 50 colleges participated in a conference on the application of embedded systems conducted by Oasis Education. The conference,titled Embedopedia,focused on providing career guidance to the participants in embedded system domains,including consumer electronics,telecom,healthcare,automotive and other related industries. During the conference,it was discussed that 774 million devices would be connected to each other by 2020 to provide a better platform for healthcare. Addressing the gathering,Prof. CB Joshi,subject chairman,embedded systems,Pune University,said events like Embedopedia should be conducted more frequently.

Learn to Lead programme for students

UEI Global,which offers courses in hotel and business management,announced ‘Learn to Lead’ programme recently. Under the programme,Class XII students will be given an opportunity to seek information on experiential learning. The pan-India initiative will see the participation 25,000 schools and 50 lakh students. The students will have to write why learning is as an important element for an effective leader. The write-up should be in English,Hindi or a regional language in less than 100 words. The best three write-ups will be shortlisted from every region. These will be further screened at the national level. The prizes will be handed over by former Indian skipper Kapil Dev.

India Spell Bee prelim rounds from Nov 13

India Spell Bee is organising its preliminary rounds in Pune for India Spell Bee 2011-2012. Registration for the same are open. The preliminary rounds will be held between November 13 and December 18. The competition is designed for Class I to X students from ICSE,CBSE and state board. The participants who will clear the school level in each category will be eligible for the inter-school competition.
