Dowry death case: Shiv Sena (UBT) demands MCOCA charges against accused
Demands for the resignation of chairperson of the state women's commission Rupali Chakankar intensified

The opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) on Monday demanded imposing MCOCA on the accused in the death of Vaishnavi Hagawane in Pune.
“It is a shocking incident as a young girl has to lose her life due to the harrassment of in-laws. It is a gruesome act. All accused in the case should be booked under MCOCA. The punishment should be such that no one will ever dare to commit such a crime,” said Ambadas Danve, opposition leader in state legislative council and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader.
He said the Hagawane family should have sent Vaishnavi back to her parents if they did not want to accept her instead of making her life difficult.
Demands for the resignation of chairperson of the state women’s commission Rupali Chakankar intensified. “I really dont think that the state women’s commission does anything other than serving notice,” said Danve. The entire opposition including chief of NCP(SP)’s state women’s wing Rohini Khadse, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare have already demanded Chakankar’s resignation.
NCP spokesperson Rupali Patil Thombare said the state women’s commission needed to change its style of working. “If the state women’s commission is not doing satisfactory work, then party chief and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will take a decision on it,” she said.
Leaders of all political parties including Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol of BJP, Ajit Pawar, Aditi Takare and Chakankar of NCP, Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena from the ruling alliance met the parents of Vaishnavi recently. State legislative assembly opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar of Congress, Rohini Khadse and Danve of Shiv Sena (UBT) have met the parents of Vaishnavi too.
