With the onset of the south west monsoon in Pune on June 11,the Met officers have forecast heavy spells of rain in the next 48 hours. On June 11,the city had received 5 cm rainfall, deputy director general of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Dr AB Mazumdar said,”This the normal pattern after the onset and the city will see heavy rainfall with winds in the next 48 hours.”
The rains arrived four days as cyclone Phet delayed the progress of the monsoon in peninsular India.
The Met department has further forecast that the conditions are favourable for further advance of the south west monsoon into the remaining parts of the state,Andhra Pradesh and southern parts of Gujarat,Chhattisgarh and Orissa during the first half of the week and over Gangetic West Bengal in the second half of the week.
The low pressure in Bay of Bengal will help in the progress of the monsoon. The Met department has also forecast scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity over northeastern states during the week.
