Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar today felicitated the cops who exposed that a case of rape filed by a 22 year old IT professional woman in Pune was false.

Fadnavis and Pawar were at the Pune police headquarters in Shivajinagar on Friday for inauguration of various projects of the police department. During the event, they felicitated the teams of Kondhwa police station and crime branch of Pune city police, who had investigated and confirmed that a complaint filed by a woman claiming that she was raped by a courier delivery executive was false.

The woman had stated in her complaint that she was raped by a man posing as a delivery executive, who had come to her home in Kondhwa to deliver bank documents, when she was alone around 7.30 pm on July 2.

The woman alleged that the delivery executive asked her to get a pen, but he then barged into her house and raped her after spraying a substance on her face which left her unconscious.

She had also alleged that the suspect had taken a selfie on her phone when she was unconscious and had left a threat message on it saying he will come back. Within 24 hours, teams of the Kondhwa police station and crime branch nabbed the suspect after scouring through 500 videos captured by CCTV cameras at different locations and probing call data records of about 500 mobile phone numbers.

The police probe revealed that the suspect was not a delivery executive, but a 25-year-old man known to the complainant. Police also confirmed that he did not enter her house forcibly and did not spray any substance on her. The probe also found that the selfie on her phone was also taken with her consent and she herself had edited the threat message on it.

So, for filing a false complaint of rape, the police had registered a non-cognisable offence against the woman under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 212 (Furnishing false information), 217 (False information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to injury of another person) and 228 (Fabricating false evidence).

Making a mention of this in his speech, Ajit Pawar, who is also the guardian minister of Pune district said, “….It happens that some incidents take place, but without gathering full knowledge about the incidents, the government and police are defamed widely for it. But after a few hours it is known that the facts were something different. The Kondhwa case is an example….”

Pawar then urged the people to believe that the Mahayuti government under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis was committed to maintaining the law and order situation in the state, such that the common people would feel secure and are able to live peacefully.

“The Mahayuti government has sanctioned Rs 22,000 crore for the District Planning Committee (DPC), of which five percent funds are reserved for the police department,” Pawar said.

Higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil was present on the occasion along with director general of police Rashmi Shukla, Pune city police commissioner Amitesh Kumar and other police officers and political leaders.
