District Collector Vikas Deshmukh, who took charge on Monday, said his priority would be to put the district ahead for investments by expediting land acquisitions and ensuring systematic rehabilitation. The former joint secretary to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan also put e-governance initiatives and the zero pendency drive initiated by his predecessor Chandrakant Dalvi high on his agenda.
Zero pendency is a good scheme, which will obviously lay thrust on effective administration. I would continue with that, Deshmukh told a news conference.
Deshmukh had won accolades as CEO Kolhapur for his effective implementation of the Nirmal Gram scheme and helping the district achieve the status of open defecation-free villages. His schemes in Satara like government at the doorstep, soyabean donation for anganwadi children to tackle malnutrition and steps to control swine flu outbreak in Panchgani when he was the district collector had also won praise. He had also attended an exchange programme in Australia on disaster management.
Dalvi, meanwhile, has been promoted as settlement commissioner and given additional charge of the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA). Hailing from Nidhal hamlet in Khatav,Satara,Dalvi has won accolades for his work in his drought-prone village besides bagging the first prize under the state governments Sant Gadgebaba rural sanitation programme in 2001.
