She concedes that unlike most other actors who have had to struggle for years to get their break,she has been more fortunate to have landed a lead role so quickly. “The director of the movie had seen my performance in a film made by one of the directors of the FTII,called A Proposal. At the end of August last year,I got a call from Gaurav Panjwani,the director,who was convinced that I was the only actress who could essay the role,” she says. Gupta’s character,Poonam Upadhyay,is a textile designer who works in Jaipur and lives with her mother. “She is an independent girl,but is confused about making simple decisions in life.”

Shooting for the film commenced in the first week of January and ended in the first week of February. “All the artistes,be it Charu Rohatgi,who plays my mother,or Vishal Nayar,who plays the lead opposite me and Mohit Chauhan (of Chak De! India fame) who plays his father,along with most of the technical crew stayed in the same house. This was Gaurav’s idea. So for the entire month that we shot the film we also bonded very well as an actual family,” she says. The film was shot on location in Jaipur,Gurgaon and Delhi.
