Pune: Death of 2-wheeler rider due to falling of tree, PMC officials booked
Police said along with the truck driver, officials of the garden department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are also accused in this case for allegedly failing to perform their duty of chopping the tree branches that can cause danger to the commuters passing through the road.
Police said the truck driver did not drive cautiously and hit the branch of the tree that should have been chopped off by PMC’s garden department.
A month after a 2-wheeler rider died after being struck by a tree branch that fell on him as a result of a civic body garbage truck colliding with a tree, the truck driver has been booked on charges of negligent driving. The mishap took place on the Handewadi Road in Hadapsar on August 8.
Police said along with the truck driver, officials of the garden department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are also accused in this case for allegedly failing to perform their duty of chopping the tree branches that can cause danger to the commuters passing through the road.
Police said the deceased Pandit Fakira Patil (58) was a resident of Vaishnav City, Adarsh Nagar. His wife lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Wanwadi police station on Wednesday.
Police said on the day of the accident, the victim Pandit Patil was commuting on a two-wheeler on Handewadi road, when at about 8.45 am, a branch of a tree fell on him. He received critical injuries which caused his death in the incident, police said.
Initially a case of accidental death was lodged at Wanwadi police station, but the ensuing probe revealed that Patil was behind a PMC garbage truck which collided on the branch of a tree that had bent downwards. Due to it, the branch broke and fell over Patil.

Police said the truck driver did not drive cautiously and hit the branch of the tree that should have been chopped off by PMC’s garden department.
Police sub inspector Dhanaji Tomne, the investigation officer, said an offence has been registered against the truck driver and officials of the garden department of PMC under sections 281, 106 (1) (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
