Cylinder blast at fabrication workshop,1 hurt

One person was injured after an LPG cylinder exploded at a fabrication workshop in Sonavane Estate,Pune-Satara Road,on Monday.

One person was injured after an LPG cylinder exploded at a fabrication workshop in Sonavane Estate,Pune-Satara Road,on Monday. Police have filed a case against the owner of the workshop for negligence.

According to the police,the explosion took place around 8.15 am after a pipe carrying LPG from the cylinder caught fire.

Vijaysingh Gaikwad,senior police inspector at Dattawadi police station said,“We have found that some welders at the fabrication workshop,owned by one Dilip Gondhalikar,were mixing LPG with other gases and using this mixture for welding metals. Some of them tried to extinguish it with sand and water but were unsuccessful. Satish Nayar,who owns a tire remoulding workshop nearby,also tried to extinguish the fire but the cylinder exploded and he suffered burn injuries on his hands. The others had left the premises.” Nayar was taken to a hospital before the fire brigade reached the spot.

Fire brigade official Bhimrao Pawar said,“We reached the spot within 10 minutes and it took around 10 minutes for us to bring the fire under control.

Owing to the impact of the explosion,the cement roof of the workshop was completely destroyed. Some other material in the workshop were also damaged,said Pawar.
