Crackdown on illegal gambling dens,over 100 arrested

As part of its drive against illegal gambling dens across the city,Pune police raided three dens and arrested over 100 persons on Friday.

Police raided an illegal gambling den in the basement of Aradhana apartment in Dhankawdi around 2.15 am and arrested 56 persons. An offence has been registered against Vijay Baburao Kolhapure of Aradhana apartment who was allegedly operating the den with the help of his manager Dharmendra Modi. Playing cards and Rs 1 lakh cash was seized from the spot. Senior police inspector Kamlakar Takawle is investigating the case.

In another raid,police team raided an illegal gambling den at a hostel behind Bharati Vidyapeeth around 3.15 am and arrested 44 persons.

An offence has been registered at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station against Balasaheb Sandbhor (44) of Kashinath Patil Nagar,Dhankawadi and his manager Shashikant Dattatraya Kumbhar (32) of Katraj gaon. Police seized cards,gambling items and Rs 1.4 lakh cash from the spot.

Around 1.30 am,police raided another illegal den at house number 46 in Shukrawar Peth and arrested 26 persons including operator of the gambling den Ajay Anil Shinde (27) of Shukrawar Peth.

An offence has been registered at Khadak police station. Police seized cards,gambling items and Rs 66,000 cash from the spot.
