THE city police have arrested a man and his wife,both natives of Rajasthan,for allegedly paying three fake currency notes of Rs 100 denomination to a shopkeeper in Budhwar Peth.
The accused have been identified as Anil Munnalal Saroj (22) and his wife Asha (21),residents of Lohiya Nagar and natives of Rajasthan.
According to the police,the couple went to the shop on Sunday afternoon and purchased a gown for Rs 300 and paid three Rs 100 notes to shop owner Atul Vasant Naik. Suspecting that the notes were counterfeit,he called a friend to check them.
Naik called the Vishrambaug police who then arrested the couple.
The police said that the notes will be sent for forensic tests.
The police had recently recovered a huge volume of fake currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. Investigations have traced the fake currency racket to Bangladesh and Pakistan.
