Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam will inaugurate GIST 2010,a convention and exhibition on scientific and technological approaches for sustainable use of water resources on Sunday.
Ram Raje Nimbalkar,Water Resources Minister (Krishna Valley Irrigation Coporation) will attend. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will be present at the valedictory function to be held on December 27.
Organised by Vijnana Bharati,Maharashtra Education Society and MM Activ Sci-Tech Communications,GIST 2010 will be held at Abasaheb Garware College. Government agencies like CWC (Central Water Commission),NIH (National Institute of Hydrology),NCL (National Chemical Laboratory),INCOIS and University of Pune with prominent educational institutes like COEP (College of Engineering,Pune),ICT (Institute of Chemical Technology) Mumbai are associated with this event.
GIST 2010 will focus on water and will attempt to recapitulate,compile,capture and lay down,in a holistic and integrated manner,the present status and thinking for future in Science,Engineering and Technology of important issues on water supply and its usage.
GIST Convention 2010 through the articulation,facilitated the scientific programme committee,eminent theme speakers and response papers for five sessions,covering key areas of hydrology and climate change impacts,agriculture,drinking water for domestic and industrial use,water for energy sector and water for environment,will be able to identify thrust areas and take them to the public at large.
An expo showcasing the works by various academic and research institutes,industries working in the field of water treatment and management would also be organised on the sidelines of the convention.
The expo will have around 20 stalls. A special pavilion by the Ministry of Earth Sciences will be one of the highlights. Dr. Kalam will be visiting the stalls.
The expo will be open from 9 am-9 pm and entry is free. Dr. Madhav Chitale,the first Indian to receive the prestigious Stockholm water Prize,will speak on the road map of S & T needs of future in water sector. Avinash Tyagi,director of Climate and Water Department,World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) will share his views on River Basin Hydrology & Climate Change,while Dr. Dinesh Kumar,Executive Director,Institute for Resource Analysis and Policy (IRAP) will throw some light on topics related to Water & Irrigated Agriculture.
