Childern in the age group of 10-20 can now get a unique opportunity to learn unarmed combat techniques from trainers from military schools like Bhonsala Military School,Nashik. The programme,a brainchild of city-based adventure sports trainer,Anand Munje, promises to train children combat and survival techniques over a period of six Sundays. It is slated to take off in August.

Talking about the need for children to know atleast the basic survival techniques,Anand Munje said,“We are living in a society where our children need to be prepared to face any kind of emergency,be it taking care of oneself or of others. There is a need to make them self-sufficient.” Apart from teaching unarmed combat, children will also be taught basic first aid and survival techniques.

Munje, who has trained children in adventure sports like para-sailing and sky-diving and also trained children in military schools like Rani Laxmi Girls Military School and Dr Vikhe Patil Military School feels that children should be prepared to face the worst.

“It is very important that children are taught how to handle a situation if someone else is injured. They will be taught methods of carrying anyone who is injured as well. Even though we will be teaching children just basic combat techniques, that will be enough to carry them through emergencies,” Munje added.

The system of self-defence to be used will be adapted from actual methods used by commandos. Children will be taught how to make electronic gadgets and techniques to survive in the wild. “If anyone is stranded in a forest or low habitation area, where it is difficult to get food, one should know ways that can help them survive. We will teach them how to read maps. Our aim is to make the children tough,” added Munje.

To give the children a better idea of how the military works, they will also be taken to College of Military Engineering (CME),National Defence Academy (NDA) and INS Shivaji.
