Civic panel yet to table report on mobility plan

The standing committee had approved the CMP,prepared by Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS),suggesting various transport projects worth Rs 19,000 crore. But the civic general body had blocked it in November 2008 and asked for an in-depth study. The civic general body immediately formed an all-party committee headed by Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale to study the pros and cons and suggest necessary steps to ensure a smooth rollout.

“After the formation of the committee,it was supposed to table a report on CMP within a month. However,more than 18 months after the formation,the committee is yet to table a report. Nothing has happened on that front so far,” Mathkari said.

Two weeks after the Pune Metro rail proposal was passed in the general body meeting,corporator Ujjawal Keskar sought to know how the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned to implement the Monorail along with the Metro rail in an integrated way.

During the general body meeting held on June 23,the general body approved only three out of 19 suggestions put forth by corporators. The approved suggestions include a Mono rail to be implemented in the city on Design,Build,Operate,Own and Transfer (DBOOT) basis along with the Metro; Metro proposal to be incorporated in the city’s development plan; and that local political leaders should push the project at the government level.
