Civic body dumper mows down architect

A dumper of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) knocked down a two-wheeler killing its rider in front of Mrutyunjayeshwar Temple in Karve Nagar on Monday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Abhinandan Jaiprakash Soman (34) of Kakade City in Karve Nagar. Police said Soman,an architect,had come to the temple for offering prayers on the occasion of Shravan Somwar. After the prayer,he was going back towards Kothrud when a speeding PMC dumper on the same route knocked him down from back around 2.10 pm.

Soman along with the motorcycle,was crushed under the wheels of the dumper. Local residents and police rushed to the spot and took Soman to Sassoon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Meanwhile,the dumper driver fled after the mishap. A complaint was lodged against the driver at Kothrud police station. There was traffic jam at the spot for about half an hour after the accident.
