10-year-old among 3 killed in road mishap
Three persons,including a 10-year-old boy,died and one person sustained injuries one after the truck they were travelling in fell into a trench off the Pune-Mumbai old highway near Aundh bridge early on Saturday. Lonavla rural police identified the victims as Umesh Parshuram Sakte (30),the driver,and Vinod Narayan Jimal (33),the cleaner,from Satara and Jimals nephew Onkar Shivtal (10) from Mumbai. Police said they were on their way to Satara from Mumbai. At Aundh bridge,the driver is suspected to have lost control.
Girl falls in open sewage pit and dies,shop owner booked for negligence
Hinjewadi police on Saturday registered an offence against an ice-cream parlour owner in Tathawde for allegedly causing death of an eight-year-old girl due to negligence. The girl was found dead in an uncovered sewage pit behind the parlour on April 10. The victim was Sakshi Maruti Alkunte of Kala Khadak Vasahat,whose mother Lalita works as a conservancy staffer at the parlour. Based on Lalitas complaint,police have booked parlour owner Ganesh Chaudhari. Sub-Inspector N J Jagdale,who is investigating the case,said,On April 10,Sakshi had come to the shop with Lalita. They had food together after which Lalita went back to work and Sakshi started playing on the premises. In the evening,when it was time for Lalita to go home and she searched for Sakshi,the girl could not be traced. Shop employees later found Sakshi drowned in a sewage pit behind the shop. She was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The pit was not covered and no precautions were taken. The owner has been booked for causing death due to negligence, said Jagdale.
