20-year-old arrested for raping minor
Pune: Hadapsar police have arrested a 20-year-old boy for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl on several occasions by threatening to kill her brother and mother if she did not comply. Police said the girl had visited the accuseds house after his sister,who is victims friend,requested her.
Deepak alias Vishal Jaiswal raped the girl between September 23-25 at his residence.
He raped her on several occasions by threatening to kill her mother and brother, said senior police inspector Raghunath Jadhav,in-charge of Hadapsar police station.
After the victim confided in her mother,she lodged a complaint and the accused was arrested. On Friday,a special court remanded him in police custody till September 30. He has been charged under Section 376 (i) (minor girl rape) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections.
975 penalised for unauthorised travel
Pune: As many as 975 passengers were penalised for unauthorised travel by the Pune division of Central Railway as part of its 30-hour special drive at Pune railway station that began on September 20. The drive spearheaded by M A Kamble,Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger Service),and Alok Badkul,Senior DCM,Pune division. As many as 852 passengers were caught travelling without ticket,33 were fined for travelling in a higher class compartment and 90 were found carrying unbooked luggage. A total fine of Rs 1,11,075 was collected from defaulters.
Special train to ease Navratri rush
Railway administration will run a special train between Pune and Lucknow to clear Navratri rush,the reservation for which will begin on September 29. Pune-Lucknow special train 01451 will depart from Pune on October 1 at 8:00 pm and will reach Lucknow at 2:00 am. Lucknow-Pune special train 01452 will leave Lucknow on October 3 at 7 am arrive in Pune at 11:05 am.
Wheelomation,robotics event mark inaugural day of MindSpark
Wheelomation that provided a platform to air some of the amazing ideas and concepts in radio-controlled (RC) cars,robotics event themed on recent Uttarakhand flood tragedy,and Indian Air Forces student interaction drive were some of attractions at the inaugural day of MindSpark,2013,an annual technical festival of College of Engineering Pune (CoEP),on Friday.
The RC cars event,which is considered as one of the most-awaited events in technical festival,created a buzz this year too,drawing a huge crowd of participants and viewers.
The Dog-Fight,a robotic event themed on Uttarakhand flood tragedy,involved a task where student teams had to compete against each other to collect food supplies,construct a bridge,and rescue survivors. Students abilities to save,conserve,and use energy judiciously were tested through the event.
Another highlight of the event was Indian Air Force teams student interaction drive where various sessions were conducted to explain as to what it takes to be a part of IAF. The IAF team conducted various quizzes and competitions throughout the day.
A band performance by GT Collective group gave students the much-needed break. Events like Robowars,Code-Junkie,Aqualympics,Intelligent Design 2D,ID-3D,and Bull Run evoked excellent response,living up to the excitement and enthusiasm associated with CoEPs prestigious event.
Host of dignitaries from corporate world and teaching and non-teaching staff of CoEP were also present.
