City archers bag 12 medals at sub-jr national tournament

As many as six archers from the city represented Maharashtra at the recently held 3 rd Sub-Junior National Championship in Vijaywada,Andhra Pradesh,winning 12 medals- six gold,three silver and three bronze.

As many as six archers from the city represented Maharashtra at the recently held 3 rd Sub-Junior National Championship in Vijaywada,Andhra Pradesh,winning 12 medals- six gold,three silver and three bronze.

Nidhi Mundada and Isha Shah were the notable performers winning five and four medals respectively,said a press release.

Mundada bagged the silver medal in the 50-meter event with 279,following it up with a couple of bronze medals in the 40-meter and 20-meter competitions.

She also won the bronze in the Individual Olympic elimination round,and was part of the team that won the gold in the Team Olympic elimination round by beating West Bengal in the finals.

Shah finished with a score of 305 points to take the gold in the 40-meter event,and proceeded to take the silver in the 20-meter and the bronze in the 30-meter event.

She also achieved another commenadle feat in the Individual Olympic elimination round,grabbing the No. 1 rank in the country from three-time consecutive champion Barbi to take the gold.

The other Pune archers to win medals were Mrudul Modak and team captain Siddhi Mundada,both of whom won team golds.

In the boys’ section,Danesh Thakkar won the team bronze medal after Maharashtra lost to Jharkand in the semifinals.

Megha Agarwal,the youngest archer in the team who managed a commendable fourth-place overall finish,is also from Pune.

All six of them train at the Archers Academy at Gultekdi,the release said.
